What Gives with Chitika?

So what is going on with Chitika these days? What indeed. The Pay Per Click minnows recently got presented with the now defunct Yahoo Ads and all their clients and it looks like the power has gone to their heads. Either that or the two guys and their mom that are running the outfit from their garage can’t keep up with it!

I am not even going to bother with the technical details – I’ll leave that for the people who care about that crap. Here’s how it looks from a layman’s point of view.

I have several websites/blogs that I had been running Chitika ads on quite happily trundling along earning a few bucks here and there. The along comes the email that informs me that things are changing for the better. I remember an email from EPN a while ago that promised that too, except things got worse.

Well, things got worse at Chitike – or more specifically my websites and blogs that were running their ads. All of a sudden most of then were deemed to not have been active and were sent for review. A process that, they said, would take 3-4 weeks. In that time, of course, they could not show ads and not make any coin. Well, a little over 4 weeks later, not only did I NOT get my blogs/websites reviewed, the ones that were still earning a few bucks were suddenly feted “pending further review” and similarly prevented from showing ads and earning any coin. No I don’t make a red cent from Chitika – until they sort out the mess they made.

The lame excuse by the “company” if you want to call it that, was that my sites were not considered of the desired level of quality to display the ads produced by the clients that had come over from Yahoo ads, so they wanted to review them further before allowing the ads to run.

Bullshit, bollocks and crap!

There is nothing wrong with any of those sites in their “pending for review” list either. They are all legit, have goof relevant content and are not overly promotional. They all get a steady flow of traffic – not great but its there.

Want to know what I think? I may be wrong, but as I don’t know for sure, as most people don’t and because I don’t trust what I was reading to be anything close to the truth, I think they are just stalling for time. They can’t review all my sites – hell, they ran out of time – and they are placing everything in some kind of sandbox until they can figure it all out.

Or maybe the got saddled with too many accounts in one go and they can’t cope! Admit it if that’s true – we understand! It happens, we are all human and we sometimes take on more than we can cope with.

Just don’t treat us like a bunch of dumbass slack-jawed yokels who don’t know one end of a pitchfork from the other. The truth sometimes hurts, but we can take it. If you really don’t want my sites, tell me straight – “Your sites totally suck and we don’t want them!” Its better than some lame PC garbage that no one believes and it puts you guys in the same sinking ship mentality as the idiots that are trying to destroy EPN from the inside out.

Work from Home Productivity Dilemma

There is an aspect to working from home that made me think might be worthy of a post on here, if only to clarify it in my own mind and then share it with whoever gets to see this post. Its on the subject of mental attitude and how it can even make the difference between success and failure.

You see, when you have a positive mental attitude toward your own home business, you can actually get a lot more quality work done in the time you have allotted than if you are in a negative mental attitude. Maybe that sounds a little obvious, but it isn’t all that obvious to everybody and often, even when you are aware of this, you don’t get all of the ramifications. Here’s what I mean.

Quite often, I get distracted or interrupted while I’m working away at something, be it a new article I may be writing for one of my websites or blogs, or maybe I’m building a new website and putting things together. Either way, it takes concentration and a fair amount of creativity to get the job done to a good standard of quality. When I’m interrupted, the thought train is broken along with the motivation, or in some cases the eagerness to get down in writing what is bursting out of my brain. An interruption at this time can be lethal to the flow of creativity and once that flow is curtailed, it is often very hard to get it back again, at least with the same level of enthusiasm as was there before the interruption.

Working at home has one great advantage in that if you have a family, you get to spend a whole lot more time with them – time that would have otherwise been used up in traveling to and from an office or place of work. Some people can spend 2 or 3 or even more hours every day commuting to and from their job. This is time that is in addition to the normal working day, so an 8 hour day can run into 10, 11 or more hours when you add on the travelling time and that’s what you get back when you work at home.

Now, here’s the problem.

Working at home also gives your family greater access to you, which is great except for those times that I mentioned above. Try explaining to your wife, son or daughter that what you are doing is a real job and they should not just drop in on you when they feel like it and expect you to drop what you’re doing to spend some time with them!

You have two choices, as I see it.

One, you accept the interruptions and your productivity is lower, but your family life is a ton better.

Two, you close your home office door and shut yourself away and get your work done and make a load more money for your family to benefit from with a better standard of living.

Ooh, tough call, isn’t it! What would you do? What do I do?

Ok, I admit it, I take option number one where productivity can go take a hike while I enjoy living. Its not everyone’s answer, but then not everyone is the same. You do what you have to do.
