Plenty of things happen day to day when you host one of these sites, such as here at Blog Subway, that allows the creation of additional blogs as subdomains. For a start, there’s always the problem that the host’s lack of perceived authority may cause it problems down the line when it comes to remaining indexed in the search engines. Let’s take a cold, hard look at what might cause problems for a newer blog host and how they may be avoided.

The first thing that appears to cause major headaches for any blog host Admin is blogs getting created by spammers. These assholes do untold damage wherever they turn up because generally they are clueless noobs who don’t care what the consequences of their actions may be. Most spammers think that of they create a ton of free blogs all over the place then steal content from legit sites and then link them all together they’ll get ranked well in the SERPs.

This is a fallacy. The truth is that blogs such as these simply get sandboxed or de-indexed in short order because they provide no usefulness to the search experience of users of the various search engines.

So when you administer a blog host, the first battle is to keep spammers from creating blogs on your host. The best way to do that is to restrict all new registration by either moderating each new user registration manually (who has time for that?) or take drastic action and close user registrations altogether and only allow new users upon direct request. This is an overhead for Administrators, but at least it saves on all that moderation. You can usually spot the bad apples before they even get to square one. One of the best ways of applying new user membership is to be a member of or even own a message board or forum in which the members are decent, knowledgeable people who you can get to know first. Then when they ask for a user membership of the blog host, you have a head start because they are unlikely to create bad blogs because they know you and you trust them.
