Welcome back to the Subway! In this post, we’ll be taking a brief look at how eBay changes affect blogs hosted on Blog Subway and indeed all other blog hosts that allow folks to create and manage their own blogs without them needing to own their own domains.

The first changes came about last month, where eBay made policy changes that affect all their affiliates who make use of free blogs to promote eBay items. Where before the changes affiliates had a pretty broad spectrum of places they could display ads channeling traffic to the eBay site and earning a commission on sales, that practice has been severely restricted.

Affiliates can no longer serve eBay ads on domains they do not own, either using RSS feeds, propriety software or ebay’s own widgets. Instead, affiliates are restricted to serving these ads only on their own domains that are registered in their name. This is so that eBay can more easily track where sales are coming from, or so they say. That means you can’t use your Blog Subway blogs to serve eBay ads using the revenue sharing system we have in place. It also means you can’t use places like blogger blogs, or any other free blogging platform.

Strangely, your Squidoo lenses can still display eBay ads as long as you use their own modules and not RSS feeds, which means you don’t directly get a cut of your sales. Same goes for Hub Pages, although in their system you do get a direct percentage of the sale.

What it really means is they have hammered yet another nail into the coffin of their affiliates, in their apparent drive towards keeping more of their sales revenue for themselves and not sharing it with the affiliates who drive most of the traffic to their website. Make of that what you will, but more changes came shorty afterwards.

Now, with the latest round of changes, affiliates no longer earn a percentage of the sales they generate. Instead, they are paid for the number of clicks they generate from their websites with earnings increasing if those clicks produce sales. Its a little more complicated than that, but if you are an eBay affiliate, you’ve doubtless already read their own explanation and if you’re not, then it doesn’t apply to you anyway.

So there you have it in a nutshell. The main message we want to get across here is that if your blogs were displaying eBay ads, then you must remove them! You won’t get paid for any clicks and you may jeopardize your EPN account, so don’t be slack about this or you may cause yourself more grief than you need!

Get ready for Spring with a new blog! That’s right, as the warmer months are just around the corner, now id the perfect time to create a new blog for a great Spring themed idea!

Easter is coming soon and there’s always lots to write about concerning the many different ways this religious holiday is treated by the different cultures around the world. Or what about putting something nice together for Mother’s Day which is coming up in May. It’s not that far off and you’ll be giving a new blog created now a few months to age and gain some search engine love!

There are loads of great ideas that you can choose from!

What about the gardeners amongst you? Spring is a pretty hectic time in the garden with lots of new planting, transplanting and potting to be done as well as getting vegetable patches ready for your home grown crops.

Anyone involved in outdoor activities loves the warmer weather of thos elonger Spring days to enjoy a plethora of activities. From sports activities such as running, hiking, cross country, tennis, badminton etc they can all be written about in great detail to really make a great blog!

While the Spring is not necessarily beach weather, although that depends upon where you are, you could also be getting a beach themed blog together in readiness for reporting on your own exploits by the sea during the summer months when every one goes beach crazy!

There are so many things to write about, so stop thinking about it and create a new blog today!

Welcome to Blog Subway.

This is a special WordPress mu site which acts as a host for free blogs to be set up on, using the Wordpress platform, its great themes and plugins and versatility.

The site has just been relaunched under new management as it seems its old owners didn’t want to run it anymore as a WP mu site, which it was previously. In its new guise, it will run as a closed community site, meaning that only members of the forum will have access to create new blogs. Access will only be granted by admin who you should contact direct via PM in the forum.

This  is an unprecedented move in an attempt to keep out spammers who are the scurge of the Internet and once they get a hold of anything like a free blog host, they start creating their crap blogs and start linking to bad neighbourhoods. This gets the site owner a bad name with the search engines and does nobody any good.

So I’m guessing that Google and co will be pleased with the decision to keep this small and manageable so only quality blogs get created that add relevance and information to its index. So if you can’t create a blog on here, it means you didn’t ask first and you’re not a member of the forum. Oh, and if you have to ask which forum that might be, then you are definitely NOT a member and will not be granted access.

So don’t go bleating to Google and whinging that this site is anything other than what it is – a free blog host that will ONLY host good, relevant and quality blogs!
